Proposed Changes to How You Receive your Important Financial and Health Plan Docs

Your choice in how you receive important documents matters.

Proposed rules from the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) and Department of Labor (DOL) could make electronic delivery the default for certain financial and health plan documents. This means consumers could be moved to e-delivery without actively choosing it.
This change could make important information easier to miss, particularly for seniors, Americans with disabilities, and people in rural or tribal communities. It could also create additional opportunities for phishing attempts involving emails that appear to contain important financial or healthcare documents.
There is still time to make your voice heard.

The Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) and Department of Labor have proposed rules making electronic delivery the default for key documents, including investment disclosures and statements, as well as critical health-plan disclosures. Even though consumers can already choose for such materials to be delivered electronically, the proposed SEC and Department of Labor rules would default them to e-delivery, even when individuals have not chosen that method. In addition to disadvantaging consumers — especially seniors, Americans with disabilities and people in rural communities, all of whom would be more likely to miss important health insurance and investment updates — the new rules would open the door to more phishing scams, where cybercriminals would send emails with a link to open documents, only to steal personal and financial information. The rules would also be disastrous to the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), costing it up to $2 billion annually at a time when the agency is already struggling financially and projecting a cash crisis and potential insolvency in 2031.

The comment deadline for the proposed rules is September 21. Please follow the prompts to submit comments to both the SEC and Department of Labor ASAP.
